New competitor to Zoom?
Apple’s WWDC (Word Wide Developer Conference) comes always with surprises every year.
During its WWDC 2021 keynote, Apple revealed one of its biggest updates and that comes to FaceTime, Apple’s app for video and audio calls.
Surprise
Android and Windows users will finally be able to join FaceTime calls
FaceTime will be available on the web and users can call in from Android devices and Windows PCs. By the looks of it, Apple is turning FaceTime into more of a Zoom-like video calling service.
Apple hasn’t revealed any official release date but we can easily assume that it will be available with iOS 15, this September.
There are also a few more updates too.
Apple has added features such as schedule calls, SharePlay, and screen sharing capabilities. SharePlay will allow the group of uses to watch and listen to the same content within the call.
Share Play will allow playing songs and videos from apps including Apple Music, Apple TV, Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO Max, and Twitch.
Last but not the least, for making calls more interactive and intuitive, Apple is bringing spatial audio, voice isolation to improve sound quality, grid view and portrait mode to the FaceTime call.
By the looks of it, Apple is trying to catch up with similar competitors like Google Meet and Zoom, in the video calling space.
FaceTime is used by millions of Apple users across the globe every day, and this new feature will only increase the user base for Apple.
