The next stage for Material Design
Google’s existing Material Design language which was adopted in 2014 has completely changing the way how we interact with Android UI. As the design language got evolved over the past few years, the user experience was quite good but not across all the design layers.
What’s Material U ?
At Google I/O 2021 conference, Google unveiled “Material You,” a new colorful and personalized design language for its hardware devices.
Google provides some insight about this new design language,
Material U seeks to create designs that are personal for every style, accessible for every need, alive, and adaptive for every screen
Based on your wallpaper, Google’s Material You will redefine the UI interaction in real-time. That means you will be able to tailor the look and feel of their Android phone based on the mood.
Not only that, the Material You design language will also adapt to different screen sizes and types. That means it will not only be available via Android on your smartphone but also your Wear OS smartwatch, smart speaker, and more. Google also plans to use the new colorful UI elements on the web as well.
The UI reacts to screen changes, context changes, and input in a way that is consistent but also realistic.
“Material You will transform design for Android, for Google, and for the entire tech industry,” says Google in an official blog post.
You can check out the new design changes in the YouTube video below.
