Swiggy and Flipkart to deploy Drones for delivery

Good news, delivery of essential items using drones is slowly becoming a reality in India.

Online food delivery giant Swiggy has started testing drone deliveries in India for food delivery operations. It has partnered with Noida-based software company ANRA Technologies to commence the trials in the coming days.

Swiggy is ramping up to implement the solution as soon as it completes the trails

The team at ANRA launched its first drive in India recently on June 16. It commenced after months of planning, assessments, and air traffic control integration.

Shilpa Gnaneshwar, the Principal Program Manager at Swiggy said,

“With an increasing number of technological innovations taking place to smoothen and fasten the last mile journey, it only becomes natural for us to explore the latest avenues available to maximize the benefit to our consumers

We are excited about the potential that Drones offer and look forward to the trials on BVLOS operations for the use case of food delivery. Through our association with ANRA, we aim to put the long-range proficiencies of drone technology to best use and accomplish some ground-breaking trials

Reports suggest, ANRA will start drone deliveries in Etah and Rupnagar districts using its proprietary SmartSkies technology.

Other than partnering with Swiggy, ANRA has also partnered with the Indian Institute of Technologies, Ropar to commence drone deliveries of medical packages.

Flipkart is also joining the race too

E-commerce major Flipkart has recently partnered with the Telangana government to lead a consortium tasked with the development and execution of the drone deliveries of medical supplies to remote areas under the ‘Medicines from the Sky’ project.

Drone deliveries are the future

Other countries are slowly adopting this technology for faster and effective delivery solutions.

Last year, Amazon received a Federal Aviation Administration certificate to begin its own drone deliveries, making it the third company after UPS and Alphabet’s Wing subsidiary to do so in the United States of America.
