Either pay more or go for cheaper alternatives
In November last year, Google announced it would no longer offer its unlimited free storage for “high quality” photos on Google Photos from June 1, 2021.
This means, starting next month, users will be limited to the 15GB free Google storage that the company allows for all accounts, which will be split across Photos, Gmail, and Drive storage. And if anyone needs more storage, they have to shell out money.
However, there are Google’s subscription-based storage plans under ‘Google One’ which starts from Rs. 130 per month for 100GB storage.
You can download the Google One app on your smartphone and subscribe for the monthly or annual plans according to your requirement.
But, if you don’t want to spend money on additional storage, the best option would be to clear up your existing 15GB of free storage.
Here’s how you can do it with a built-in tool present in Google Photos app.
- Open Google Photos app and click on the profile icon.
- Select ‘Account Storage’ option.
- Now select ‘Manage storage’. This will display the used storage space in your Google photos.
- Under ‘Review and delete’ section, you will see photos which are displayed by category.
- Tap on any of them, for instance “Blurry Photos”.
- Select the photos under it and remove them.
