McDonald’s suffers massive data breach in some regions

Just another day and we have another data breach.

Fast-food giant McDonald’s Corp has fallen prey to a data breach after unauthorized activity on its network exposed the personal data of some customers in U.S, South Korea, and Taiwan.

What was the impact?

Unlike other attacks which are mostly ransomware, McDonald’s data breach revealed store information in the US, along with some customer information in South Korea and Taiwan.

The company acknowledged this attack and issued a statement,

While we were able to close off access quickly after identification, our investigation has determined that a small number of files were accessed, some of which contained personal data.

The company said that it will be taking steps to notify regulators and customers listed in these files.

McDonald’s has denied any financial information was accessed during the breach.

Businesses across various sectors are being targeted by cybercriminals every day, including some very high-profile cases in recent weeks.
