WhatsApp users should get ready for these restrictions

Privacy is a joke

A few months back WhatsApp Inc, introduced changes to its privacy policy which received a huge backlash from users. The new privacy policy clearly indicates WhatsApp’s plan to share user data with its parent company Facebook.

It was also revealed at that time that users have to accept the new updated terms before May 15th so that their accounts won’t be deleted.

And now WhatsApp has scrapped its May 15 deadline for users to accept its controversial privacy policy update and said not accepting the terms will not lead to deletion of accounts.

No one will have their accounts deleted or lose functionality of WhatsApp on May 15th

For the past few weeks, WhatsApp has reminded its users to accept the updated privacy policy in its app. From now on, if users ignore this reminder for a longer period time, the updated privacy policy prompt will eventually become persistent inside the app.

This will also lead to limited functionality on WhatsApp until the user accept the policy updates. The company has revealed that this will not happen to all users at the same time.

Below are the restrictions that will come in place to those users

  • You won’t be able to access your chat list, but you can still answer incoming phone and video calls. If you have notifications enabled, you can tap on them to read or respond to a message or call back a missed phone or video call.
  • After a few weeks of limited functionality, you won’t be able to receive incoming calls or notifications and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to your phone.

So basically, WhatsApp will restrict the users to stop using the app and of course, why would anyone use it, if the above restrictions fall in place.

It is high time that we should start using other alternatives such as Signal or Telegram which are more secure and privacy driven compared to WhatsApp.
