Google is making a couple of changes to its Workspace (previously called GSuite) suite of apps and services for its three billion Gmail users.
Workspace offers all the same Google services including Gmail, Docs, Chat, Drive, Calendar, etc., but with deeper integrations between different apps.
Everything you need to get anything done, now in one place.
Speaking about these changes, Javier Soltero, VP and GM, Google Workspace, said,
Collaboration doesn’t stop at the workplace, our products have been optimized for broad participation, sharing, and helpfulness since the beginning.
Our focus is on delivering consumers, workers, teachers, and students alike an equitable approach to collaboration, while still providing the flexibility that allows these different subsets of users to take their own approach to communication and collaboration.
Across apps like Gmail, Chat, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet, and more, consumers, enterprises and education users can use Google Workspace to stay in touch, share ideas, and get more done together every day.
To get started, you need move from Hangouts to Google Chat.
Here’s how you can do it.
- Open Gmail and log in to your account.
- Go to Settings and then select ‘View All Settings’
- Now navigate to ‘Chat and Meet’ option. Under ‘Chat’ section, you will see options for Chat.
- Select ‘Google Chat’ and save changes.
- Once this is done, Gmail will show you the new Google Workspace interface and that is it. Welcome to Google Workspaces.
If you think the current interface of Google Workspace is a bit clunky, Google is promising it will launch a streamlined and flexible user interface for Spaces this summer.
